When Your Picky Eater Only Eats Cheerios… But You Still Set the Table Like a Feast

Feeding a picky eater can feel like an emotional rollercoaster and slow to progress. One minute they’re licking a spoon, the next they’re hurling that spoon across the room like it betrayed them. 😂
But here’s what I’ve learned on this journey with my own little food critic: consistency, patience, and hope go a long way.

Picky Eater Inclusivity

In our home, we offer everyone the same meal—yes, even my toddler. Ermias might not eat everything on his plate, and that’s okay. The key is progress, not perfection and including one thing I know my picky eater likes alongside the new or unfamiliar foods. Some days he only eats his favorite, and other days—on magical, mood-aligned days—he surprises me. He dips a toe in, tries a bite, or just crunches it to feel the texture.

You never know when that moment will happen—the moment your picky eater is in the mood to try something new. That moment is worth every ignored plate before it.

I’m still in this phase, and no, I don’t have it all figured out. But I have hope. He’s trying. Slowly. In his own way. And I celebrate every crumb-sized victory.

If you caught our last blog post, you saw the magic of sensory play meeting snack time. That’s what I mean when I say kids will surprise you. And I’m here for every beautiful, messy, curious step forward.

Let your toddler eat with their eyes, fingers, and eventually… their hearts.
